Looking for an innovative way of marketing your company or brand that sets you above the competition? Go Viral! Viral marketing breaks from the traditional methods of marketing, and acts to create an interactive, fun experience for both the buyer and seller. Typical methods include blogs, eBooks, flash movies, YouTube movies, and more. Usually, these are integrated with a social media campaign.
Viral marketing can present an excellent opportunity for your company to create an inexpensive (and even FREE) campaign. Not sold yet? Consider this: Old Spice, owned by parent company Proctor & Gamble, made the most successful viral marketing campaign in history in 2010 with their “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” campaign. In just a few weeks, the video had 5.9 million views, and 22,500 comments. This is so much more productive and exciting than television advertising, isn’t it?
Small businesses and companies that do not have a lot of resources to budget toward an expensive marketing campaign usually go viral. However, as we saw from Proctor & Gamble, Fortune 100 companies can also make use of this method.
If you haven’t yet, consider having the team of highly skilled experts at WebiMax create a viral marketing campaign for you. They’ll fully integrate these campaigns with the client’s’ social media sites and main webpage to ensure maximum exposure with full cohesiveness to your brand.

In an interview with FOX Business in March, Founder and CEO Ken Wisnefski stated that “companies are starting to incorporate more resources in to social media optimization, and don’t be surprised if we start to see a dramatic shift over the next 1-3 years toward social media marketing. That 50/50 social media / traditional marketing arena is not out of the question”.
One month later, Todd Wasserman, of mashable.com, reports that “An overwhelming number of marketers consider social media to be integral to their strategies this year, and 70% plan to increase their social media budget by more than 10% this year”, (according to a poll from Effie Worldwide and Mashable).

On Monday, March 21, 2006, the first tweet was sent by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, saying “just setting up my twttr”. Yesterday, Twitter celebrated its 5th birthday. It has taken the private social media company only 5 years to be worth the reportedly $10 billion. Free to join and use, Twitter enjoys most of its success from their advertising platform, estimated to generate $150 million in 2011.
As we look back at the evolution of the company over the past 5 years, some notable facts stand out that has driven its success:
The continued evolution of Twitter is expected to reach over 1 billion users over the next few years, and its net worth is expected to soar past the $10 billion their already worth. These new users will mostly comprise of companies adapting to the “new era of marketing”. It is most important to make sure your company has a social media campaign in place. In lieu of the disaster in Japan, it seems as though the one common denominator that is helping people is the use of social media.
“With Japan, we’ve been seeing an outpouring of support through the social media community and an increase in the use of Twitter and Facebook,” – Karen Kim (American Red Cross Spokesperson).
Social media is continuing to flex its muscles as world and economic events add a continued demand for its use. In an official Blog earlier this week, Founder and CEO of WebiMax, Kenneth C. Wisnefski, an expert in social media marketing stated “The footage of the events in Japan is simply horrific and frankly, something we would have never seen a few years back”.
“This side of social media, albeit far less trendy than updating your status on your Facebook, really shows just how the world has evolved and how everyone is using this to truly make everyone a news consultant”, concluded Wisnefski.
TEPCO is sending hourly updated via their twitter account so that anyone anywhere in the world can stay tuned in to the progress of the prevention of a nuclear meltdown.
Facebook is now entering the local deals business, much like how Groupon.com works. In November 2010, social media titan Facebook announced “Facebook Deals”. That has evolved over the past few months and in recent announcements, they have begun advertising just what exactly they intend to do. The fundamentals behind this new initiative are that local businesses send Facebook coupons for groups to participate in. This can include, for example, “25% off your dinner for parties of 6 or more”. This new addition is making Groupon.com a bit nervous as Facebook aims to accomplish exactly what Groupon did that rapidly brought them to fame.
In an official Facebook wall post, dated yesterday (Wednesday, March 16, 2011), they said “We’re working to make it easier to find fun things to do with your friends and connect with local businesses.”
They’ve added a tab titled “Deals”, which briefly describes the idea, and where the service is available as of right now. Currently, it is only available in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco. Facebook has not clearly stated when it becomes available in other major U.S. cities, only “coming soon”.
It seems as though news breaks every day that confirms the statements of Kenneth C. Wisnefski, Founder and CEO of WebiMax that “social media is emerging as the new era of marketing, beginning to replace traditional marketing tactics”. Companies that haven’t contacted an SEO company that also specializes in Social Media Campaigns perhaps should.
“Much of WebiMax’s success is a result of our ability to continuously evaluate the internet marketing industry (since it is constantly changing and evolving) and find ways to adapt and stay ‘one step ahead’ of the curve’ ”, says Wisnefski.
Businesses may be asking themselves “How can Facebook Deals help me”?
Scott Witwer, Chief Experience Office at WebiMax discusses this question:
“This helps businesses in 2 ways. Customer loyalty and social distribution:”
Is Charlie Sheen really “winning”? Some would say he is, while others would disagree, but no one can deny the fact Sheen has exploded his visibility through the utilization of Social Media. Social Media expert and Founder/CEO of WebiMax, Kenneth C. Wisnefski is one who has been awed by Sheen’s ability to gain so much traction so quickly. “What has transpired over the past week with Charlie Sheen has been nothing short of amazing”, discussed Wisnefski. “From having essentially no Social Media presence to becoming the biggest factor in Social Media today, is something we have never seen before. His strategy has been brilliant”.
In an effort to gain fans amidst the recent news concerning him, Charlie Sheen moved to Twitter and gained over 1 million followers in the first 25 hours, setting a new Guinness World Record for fastest person to reach 1 million followers. In a report dated March 3, 2011, the actor told TMZ “the reason I’m taking up Twitter is simple, it’s a cash cow”! Not only is he leveraging social media to gain support, companies are reportedly now signing celebrity endorsements with Sheen to “tweet” on their brand. In addition to using twitter, he also uses uStream, (comparable to YouTube) to broadcast “Sheen’s Korner”, which first went live on Saturday night (3/5/11), with more episodes to come. Sheen’s Korner has been viewed by 1,020,000 people since Saturday night.
“I think there is the perception out there that Charlie Sheen has lost his mind, when I feel I am seeing something completely different”, furthered Wisnefski. “I see someone who has basically controlled just about every news story and discussion over the past week, which is no small feat”. Experts have questioned whether Sheen’s strategy has any staying power and that once the initial luster of this platform has worn off, so will his fans. “Kim Kardashian has been labeled a genius for her ability to gain notoriety and leverage social media to her advantage, I feel Charlie Sheen has done the same thing”, exclaimed Wisnefski. “I think more importantly, both Charlie Sheen and Kim Kardashian have proven how effective online media has become and just how important it is to any marketing campaign”.
This furthers the trend that social media is evolving in to the “new era of marketing.” When Charlie Sheen and Kim Kardashian wanted to gain supporters and launch personal marketing strategies on themselves, they turned to social media, instead of creating costly, traditional mass media advertisements. The marketing industry is continue to evolve and move toward social media, especially as more examples arise that illustrates to marketers how powerful social media campaigns are.
