The United States pentagon unveiled new rules aimed at controlling “cyber warfare”. Cyber Warfare includes the act of using computers to attack other networks, or “hacking” as a more commonly known phrase. President Obama has signed a new order that outlines how far military leaders may act in engaging cyber-attacks against other nations.

“The most interesting part that comes to play is the different type of warfare we’re looking at today, versus the type that we as an American assembly are used to from World War II and Vietnam”, stated Wisnefski, a well-regarded online technology expert, and Entrepreneur. “My greatest concern, however, is that the Pentagon is announcing the new “rules”, which gives hackers a clearly defined way of how not to do it”.

One of the guidelines (signed by President Obama in May, 2011) states that the United States can defend itself and take down computer servers in the originating country of the attack.

“We’re so reliant upon our computers and networks, while it might not actually be a situation that may result in mass devastation concerning American lives lost, the impact that can occur can actually be far greater”, stated Wisnefski. “If our networks are infiltrated, it can make a huge difference beyond just someone stealing your credit card”.
