Social Media Marketing to Get Bigger Budgets

Written by John Borkowski | April 19, 2011

In an interview with FOX Business in March, Founder and CEO Ken Wisnefski stated that “companies are starting to incorporate more resources in to social media optimization, and don’t be surprised if we start to see a dramatic shift over the next 1-3 years toward social media marketing. That 50/50 social media / traditional marketing arena is not out of the question”.

One month later, Todd Wasserman, of mashable.com, reports that “An overwhelming number of marketers consider social media to be integral to their strategies this year, and 70% plan to increase their social media budget by more than 10% this year”, (according to a poll from Effie Worldwide and Mashable).

The poll was distributed to marketing executives at Fortune 500 companies to see exactly where the nation’s largest firms see the trend going. We already know that many small businesses have adapted to the “new era of marketing”, and we are all waiting to see when the big business sector fully latches on.

35% of respondent indicated that their goal for 2011 is to increase their Facebook “likes”. In addition to this figure, 87% of respondents noted that social media was “very important” to helping their company achieve their financial goals for 2011.
