One month later, Todd Wasserman, of mashable.com, reports that “An overwhelming number of marketers consider social media to be integral to their strategies this year, and 70% plan to increase their social media budget by more than 10% this year”, (according to a poll from Effie Worldwide and Mashable).

The poll was distributed to marketing executives at Fortune 500 companies to see exactly where the nation’s largest firms see the trend going. 35% of respondent indicated that their goal for 2011 is to increase their Facebook “likes”. In addition to this figure, 87% of respondents noted that social media was “very important” to helping their company achieve their financial goals for 2011.
