Social Monitoring – Keep an Eye on Your Pages

John Borkowski, February 15, 2011

Social monitoring is extremely important because you want to be able to see what others are saying about you on social media sites Facebook, Twitter, LinkenIn, and YouTube. If you are a small business owner and you are managing the company’s social media sites, it is all the more important to keep an eye on your pages.

There are numerous ways (judging on your budget) to track your brand on social media. Google Alerts and Twitter searches are the cheapest method of doing this, but you’ve got to be very knowledgeable to know what to do with the information. There are tracking tools and dashboards that gather all of the mentions of you, your company and your brand, and present the information to you in clear concise ways. Again, unless you are very skilled in this field, it is difficult to be able to know what to do with this information. There are also firms who specialize in Social Monitoring. This is the best option if you are a small business owner and are not exactly sure how to navigate social media.

Strong search engine optimization (SEO) firms have a division of their company that works directly with social media. They have knowledgeable staff that can maintain you and your company brand on the major social media sites. If you find yourself unable and unknowledgeable in navigating social media, it could be that time to make the call to an SEO company. After all, social media is the new marketing interface. It is the new customer relations call center. It is the new landscape.
